The Now & The Not Yet

Two and half years ago my wife Palesa and I were getting ready to plant a church. We were actually busy processing papers and getting ready to relocate to another country. However, God had other plans for us and that door would soon close.

While in waiting, praying and talking to friends a great door opened for us to join the Urban Life Church family. What we know but are not always aware of is that the reality is that God weaves our story and prepares us by His grace to feature in His amazing story. We get to work with Him as He works through us!

As someone who wears spectacles, and who is familiar with the concept of changing them every two years, I didn’t realise that I was about to get a new pair from God. He was going to take me on a journey to see things in a whole new way. Urban Life Church has served a great deal in making sure I wear my new glasses!

I have never been pregnant but I do have two sons and know the anticipation, the preparation and emotions that goes along with waiting for the baby to arrive. In the last few weeks, the doctor’s visits are more frequent and the hospital bag is packed, because any day the baby may arrive.

Palesa & I have been in this mode for a while now (she would understand this much better that me) in the sense that we have prepared ourselves as best as we could for stepping into our next season. As a bible school graduate, Palesa decided to further equip herself by taking on Bible school full time over the past year.

We have felt like an arrow in the hands of an archer, ready to be released and yet pulled further and further back (thanks Craig for this analogy). In this time, though we sometimes felt a little impatient, we somehow knew this time of waiting on God and the right timing was good for us, and the future we were so looking forward to.

We have learnt that waiting is a good thing. It is good for the soul. We feel better prepared for the work that is ahead of us. Our toolbox was kitted with more necessary tools, more lessons were learnt while some unnecessary and unhelpful tools have been removed from the toolbox!

Waiting is good.

We know this thanks to our journey of waiting…

  1. God makes all things beautiful in its time. Ecc 3:11
  2. God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn. Rom 11:29
  3. God loves people. Jn 3:16
  4. The church is God’s masterplan and Jesus the author & finisher of our faith. Eph 3:10 / Heb 12:2
  5. God takes mortal, weak people and turns them into a mighty army to accomplish massive kingdom exploits. Acts 4:13

We are so grateful for the lessons learnt and the partnership we have had with ULC, serving our city and the nations.

We are excited about the journey ahead filled with God-possibilities.
