Ruins Come To Life
This year marks our third Extravagant Thanksgiving – an evening of extravagant & creative celebration! What makes this such a special night in the calendar is that it’s one of the few times in the year Urban Lifers from across all our sites gather together in one building. For more then an hour we get to sing our hearts out, dance like nobody’s watching and lift our praises to the amazing God we serve.
These evenings have not just been packed full of fun, but we have seen God use these times to speak to us as a community. This year the words “Ruins come to life” (inspired by the lyrics of Hillsong’s Glorious Ruins) has been burning on our hearts.
We have felt the prophetic stirrings of God as He reminds us that He specializes in bringing restoration to ruins and bringing what is dead to life. The picture you have seen for Generous June – where the black and white ruins are transformed to colourful masterpieces – paints a picture of for hope for us all!
This has become more real to us as God has opened a door for us to partner with various churches in rebuilding the homes and lives impacted by the recent earthquakes in Nepal. Global partnerships like this remind us again how we are part of a bigger picture, that God has called us to see disciples made here in our cities and in the nations of the world. We are reminded that the church is God’s plan on earth – that we carry in us the hope for humanity.
In Isaiah it says, “They will rebuild the ancient ruins, repairing cities destroyed long ago. They will revive them…” (Isaiah 61:4).
This is a time to Rebuild, Renew, Restore, Rejoice!
We believe that God wants to bring the ruins to life – not only in the nations but also to us as a church community and as individuals. Perhaps you are looking at wreckage in your life right now? Maybe you are desperate for new life to come into the desolate areas in your life or the lives around you?
We encourage you to come to Extravagant Thanksgiving full of faith and expectation for God to do something in and through you. Let us trust God together for this evening to be a moment when heaven invades earth and Urban Life is never the same again!
