Craig and Andy attended New Covenant Bryanston (a church relating to NCMI) and were involved in children's ministry. It was at this time that they felt God wanted them to plant a church ‚in obedience to a call into ministry that God had placed on their lives.
So in 1994 they set off to do an NCMI church planters training course. They did not know the destination of the elusive church but were determined to plant! Craig gave away his business and off they went on the adventure! Craig, having grown up in Midrand, felt that this fast growing area was the right place to plant the church. God had spoken and His purposes were about to be fulfilled.
On the 16th October 1994, Covenant Life Church (later renamed "Urban Life") was planted. Our first meeting was exciting! All 150 people squashed into a tiny held old Scouts hall. Right from that humble beginning it was clear that God had great promise, purpose and inheritance for the church!

In January '95 we asked God for faith for our own venue. He heard our cry and rescued us from the miry pit of the Scout Hall. He set us on high…three stories on the top floor of a condemned building, Midmall centre (now part of Boulders Shopping Centre).
This fun-filled, vibrant 18 months; filled with adrenaline-packed roller hockey games, barn dancing parties, ministering in Ivory Park, street kid schooling, rock concerts, awesome prophetic promises and many other faith-stirring blessings, were just what God had ordered! Then it all came crashing down. The condemned building was torn down‚ yet CLC moved on!
The move was another exciting episode, as God's church emerged as a pillar in Midrand. We found premises at the Crowthorne Shopping centre. It was incredible see God's gracious hand, His blessing, His peace, His workings and His favour upon the church.
During this time, our first elders were ordained, our first deacons were appointed and our children's ministry matured and became more effective. Our prayer meetings also increased in fervour as did the celebrating. Craig and Andy were invited onto the New Covenant Ministries Apostolic Team. The church grew... slowly, steadily, surely.
